Hull: Two 13-year-olds charged with burglary

Two 13-year-old boys have been charged in connection with a burglary on Staines Close in Hull last week.

The first boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was charged with burglary, theft of a motor vehicle, driving without insurance and driving without a license. He appeared at Hull Magistrates Court yesterday morning, Monday 20 April.

The second boy, who also cannot be named for legal reasons, was charged with burglary and knowing that a motor vehicle had been taken without consent of the owner. He has been bailed with conditions to appear at Hull Youth Court next month.

Police were called on Friday, 17 April, with reports that someone had broken into a property on Staines Close early that morning before stealing a car from outside. The car was reportedly driven, before being left damaged and abandoned in the road nearby.

As the weather starts to warm up it is important to take steps to protect your home. Following these simple tips can help:

– Make sure your doors and windows are closed and locked when you’re not in the room.

– Make sure nothing of value (including your car key) is left on show to tempt thieves into your property.

– Think about fitting a burglar alarm and security lighting – both to your home and outbuildings. It may be expensive, but they are very effective deterrents and can bring down your insurance costs.
