Hull; Two thousand homes already visited in Orchard Park as part of Humber Talking

More than two thousand homes have been visited in the Orchard Park area of Hull as part of Humber Talking – our forcewide initiative to speak with everyone in our force area about what’s good and bad about where they live. 

It’s been great to hear that over a quarter of people we spoke with in Orchard Park said they had no concerns, and they felt the place where they live is a nice place to be. 

49% of those people who we were in at the houses we visited filled in our survey. We left cards for the people who we didn’t get chance to speak with to let them know we’ll be coming back to get their comments too. 

51% signed up to www.mycommunityalert.co.ukand we passed on details about how to sign up if people didn’t have time to do it while we were there. 

Hull North Neighbourhoods Inspector Mark Peasgood said: “The thing that the people of Orchard Park are most concerned about is antisocial behaviour. 

“Comments were mainly about youths hanging around in parks and fields, near shops, and generally causing a nuisance. 

“As part of our daily patrols we already have officers who are out and about in areas that have been pointed out to us. I put additional patrols out when needed. We also work proactively with businesses, the council and other support agencies in dealing with any problems that might arise. 

“There have been a number of high profile arrests made in that part of the city in relation to antisocial behaviour that we’ve already reported so we are getting good results from the information we have. 

“We have done lots of work up to now to address antisocial behaviour and will continue to do so.

“One other issue raised was nuisance motorbikes. We have our ongoing Operation Yellowfin which started in Hull and is now forcewide which tackles motorbike related crime directly. 

“Through Op Yellowfin we have the support of businesses who give security and safety advice, and petrol stations who stop illegal riders from filling up with petrol. We get some good results and give updates constantly regarding bikes we recover and the arrests we make. 

“We know of a group of, mostly young boys, who are responsible for a lot of incidents of motorbike crime. We have made arrests, brought charges, and some are going through the court system now. 

“Drugs came up as an issue. Drugs are an issue in society as a whole not just in Orchard Park, but we do know the serious problems they can cause and how distressing it can be for people who live near drug dealers and experience drug related crime.

“Our proactive team are relentless in their daily work to take drugs out of our communities. They execute warrants, arrest dealers who are out in the street, and gather a lot of intelligence that lead to arrests.

“When we get results, we let people know to provide them reassurance that we won’t stop the fight against drugs. 

“We also work closely with drug agencies such as ReFresh who can help people who may need support with drug abuse. 

“Other mentions were about fly-tipping, road safety, dog fouling, parking and littering. We’ve referred these concerns to colleagues at Hull City Council and Safer Roads Humber who can deal with such issues through their own work. 

“What we always say, is that whatever you might be concerned about then please tell us. We get results by working alongside each other.
