11th August 2020Hull: Two police vehicles damaged in attacks
Two police vehicles have been taken off the road after being attacked as officers went to help vulnerable people in Hull.
At 12.45am today (Tuesday, 11 August) a man was seen jumping on the roof of one of our vehicles in Morpeth Street, Hull, as we attempted to find a missing person.
The roof was so badly damaged, we’re not able to drive it.
A 24-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and resisting arrest. His 41-year-old mum was also arrested on suspicion of racially abusing one of our officers at the scene.
A second vehicle was damaged at around 12.05am this morning in Stratton Close, Hull.
Teams were dealing with reports of a suspected domestic abuse incident, someone climbed onto the bonnet of their vehicle and smashed the windscreen. Again, the vehicle had to be towed away for repairs.
Deputy Chief Constable Chris Rowley said: “I do not and will not accept such wreckless attacks on our vehicles or my officers being abused in this way.
“They come to work to protect people and keep our communities safe and I want to make it really clear that we will not tolerate them being attacked for doing their job.
“Furthermore, having two vehicles taken out of action could have a serious impact on our ability to attend incidents and keep people safe.
“Anyone who believes they can get away with behaviour like this should think again. We will always look to take action and seek prosecution.”
If you have any information about either incident, please call our non-emergency 101 line, quoting log numbers 3 (Stratton Close) and 19 (Morpeth Street) of 11 August.
