Introducing ‘Christmas Trees 4ever’

Our lovely friends over at #WeMadeThis have asked us to share the exciting information below about their upcoming 4th Christmas activity:-

So, who’s ready to get their Christmas craft on and join in with the fourth edition of our Christmas Tree Trail, Christmas Trees 4ever – yes, we know, but
we had to get that ‘4’ in somewhere, and it also neatly references this year’s theme of ‘reduce – reuse – recycle’.

Dates

This year’s trees are set to go up on 5th December, with decorations coming down on the 28th. There is, however, some give in this – effectively, so long as the decorations are up for at least this period of time, they can go up a little earlier and be taken down a little later.

We produce a tree trail map to accompany this project – a printed version as well as a downloadable PDF on our website. That’s also why it’s important that the trees are at least decorated for the above period, to avoid visitor disappointment. In order to be able to produce and distribute the printed version in time for the official start date, deadline for registering a tree is 14 November.

Theme

Following a discussion in our Facebook group earlier this year, this year’s theme for the decorations / trees is reduce – reuse – recycle. There are many different ways of interpreting this theme – whether you choose to use only natural materials, reuse waste plastic or only use materials purchased in charity shops, for example, it’s all good. If you’re unsure whether what you’re planning to do fits in with the theme, just ask.

Other than that, it’s up to you how you decorate / create your tree – you could choose to use a set colour scheme, a particular Christmas / winter shape or theme (e.g. stars, penguins), or just mix it up.

Trees

Choose your tree wisely! Whether it’s indoors or outdoors, real or artificial doesn’t matter, but do ensure that:
• you can decorate it safely,
• it can be viewed by the general public at least some of the time, free of charge and
• you have the tree owner’s permission.

If you’re planning on using a Hull City Council-owned tree, let us know, as we do a bulk permission request once we know where all the trees are. We also have a contact for the East Riding that we can refer you to for trees outside the Hull boundaries. If you’re using a tree on private land, obviously ask permission from the owner.

NEW THIS YEAR! We know from experience that it can be difficult to find a tree that meets all the above criteria, especially the first one. Therefore, if you wanted to create a tree shape on your (school) fence or on your window instead, that’s grand too.

Each tree will be accompanied by a ‘tree identifier’ listing the name of the tree and its makers. We produce these centrally and will be in touch re. details nearer the time.

The easiest way is to join our ‘Craft Project Hull’ Facebook group, and leave a comment on the Announcement post at the top of the page, stating

* organisation, group or area you’re representing,

* roughly where your tree(s) are going to be (exact location to be confirmed by 14 November).

* how you plan to address this year’s theme in your tree(s).
