Humberside Police’s Special Constabulary recruitment campaign ending soon

With just one week to go until the Humberside Police’s Special Constabulary recruitment campaign ends, they spent the day with Special Constable Matt Garnier to find out what it’s really like on the job.

Matt has been making a difference and volunteering within his community whilst simultaneously pursuing a career as a bus driver for over five years. He says that both roles are customer-focused, and that he brings a whole host of transferable skills to help him succeed as both.

He said: “The Special Constabulary is something I passionately believe in; I can’t get enough of it!

“Often it is seen as a steppingstone into policing, which is great because it provides an in-depth perspective of what it’s like to be a police officer, unfortunately also including the trauma that sometimes comes with it.

“I’ve enjoyed it so much I’ve just kept doing it, rather than becoming a regular, paid officer. I’ve never looked at this from a financial perspective either, I’ve always seen it as a way for me to give something back and learn!”
