Nine years in prison for Hull knife attacker

A man has been sentenced today in court for nine years in jail for section 18 Grievous Bodily Harm with intent after a man was stabbed in Hull in May

Andrew Kyle Reid, 33, of Greenwich Avenue in Hull attacked his victim on Douglas Road on Sunday 19 May, leaving him with a punctured lung. It followed an argument earlier in the afternoon. 

Fortunately the man who was stabbed made a full recovery. 

Reid handed himself into police later that month and was charged with seven separate offences. 

On 12th November at Hull Crown Court, he was sentenced for the GBH charge and given a substantial prison sentence. 

Detective Constable Andy Green from Hull CID said following the sentencing: “Today’s sentence of Andrew Reid sends out a very strong message to anyone who thinks that using a knife in any sort of crime is acceptable.

“It simply is not. The public do not accept it, and we as a police force certainly do not tolerate it either. 

“We will seek the most severe of punishments for anyone who uses and carries a knife.

“This man, Andrew Reid, is a dangerous individual and a committed and repeat offender. He is now off the streets of Hull where he can pose no further threat to the people of the city.

“This sentence just shows that if you are prepared to get involved in knife crime, or are prepared to carry a knife, then you face very serious consequences which could result in, like in this case, a long time behind bars.”
