10th January 2024Police hold man, 22, after stabbing in Hull Road, Hessle
A man was stabbed and suffered serious facial injuries during an attack in Hull Road, Hessle.
Police believe there was an “altercation” outside a property before the victim was allegedly assaulted. A 22-year-old man was arrested nearby on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.
Police cordoned off the road for almost eight hours following the incident, which happened at around 2am on New Year’s Day. Scene guards were put in place and crime scene investigators could be seen combing the scene.
Today, police said the individuals involved were known to each other and there was no wider threat to the community. Detective Inspector Paul Farmer said: “Understandably given the nature of this incident it will be concerning to the local community; however, I want to offer my reassurance that we believe this to be an isolated incident between individuals known to each other.
“A scene guard is currently in place whilst officers conduct lines of enquiry to fully understand the circumstances surrounding the incident. There will continue to be a high policing presence in the area throughout the day and into the evening. I would encourage anyone with information, or anyone with concerns, to please come and speak to us.”
The victim was taken to hospital to receive treatment for a stab wound to his arm and the injuries to his face. Det Insp Farmer has asked anyone with information, and in particular dashcam footage, to call the non-emergency number 101, quoting log 117 of January 1.
