Grants to help not-for-profit organisations in Great Britain increase resilience by adapting or expanding their services, or to meet new challenges brought on by the coronavirus/COVID-19 pandemic.

Objectives of Fund
Both core funding and project funding are available to help organisations increase resilience by adapting or expanding their services, or to meet new challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Value Notes
A total of £4 million is being available during 2020.
Grants range from £500 to £20,000.
The following funding levels apply to specific applicants:
- Applicants that are not formally registered as a charity with OSCR/Charity Commission can apply for between £500 and £2,000 in funding.
- Applicants that are registered with OSCR/Charity Commission and can provide a charity number can apply for between £500 and £20,000 in funding.
Who Can Apply
Applications will be considered from not-for-profit organisations that are not currently in receipt of funds from any trust supported by People’s Postcode Lottery.
Applications are particularly welcomed from smaller charities and community groups, with preference given to charities with a turnover of under £1 million. In addition, depending on the volume of high impact applications received, priority may be given to smaller organisations, giving particular preference to those with a turnover of less than £500,000.
The following organisations can apply for grants of between £500 and £2,000:
- Companies limited by guarantee with an asset lock.
- Constituted voluntary organisation with no charity number.
- Community Interest Companies with an asset lock.
- Organisations with tax exempt status but no registered charity number.
The following types of organisations can apply for grants of between £500 and £20,000:
- Charities registered with the Charities Commission or OSCR.
All applicants must be able to provide proof they are a constituted organisation and have an organisation bank account.
Restrictions
The following are not eligible for funding:
- Activities taking place outside of GB or foreign travel.
- Sponsorship.
- Medical research, clinical treatment and equipment (eg, defibrillators).
- Projects that promote religion.
- Bodies seeking to distribute grants/funds to individuals or other organisations.
- Individuals.
- Local, regional or government institutions and organisations with core statutory responsibilities (eg, NHS foundation trusts, parish councils, town councils and public bodies).
- Organisations currently in receipt of funding from players of the People’s Postcode Lottery, including previous grant recipients who have not submitted a project evaluation form.
- Organisations that appear to have excessive unrestricted or free reserves and no policy to reflect the rationale behind this.
- Organisations with core support from players of People’s Postcode Lottery through other Trusts eg, Wildlife Trusts, RDA, Girlguiding, Carers Trust, National Trust.
- Political parties or party-political activities.
- Schools (except for special schools), parent teacher associations, nurseries, preschools, playgroups and universities/colleges.
Eligible Expenditure
Funding can deliver activities up to 12 months in duration.
The funding is for projects that relate to the following themes:
- Supporting an organisation’s resilience.
- Continuing to deliver current services that are at risk of closure
- Core costs (eg, salaries of key staff, heating, lighting, cleaning, insurance, professional fees).
- Developing strategies to support resilience (eg developing a fundraising strategy to strengthen financial stability).
- Promoting positive mental health and wellbeing of staff and volunteers (eg, wellbeing courses, activities focused on improving wellbeing).
- Volunteer costs (eg, recruitment, training, support and recognition)
- Staff training (eg, digital training, resilience training, fundraising, health and safety)
- Adapting or expanding services to meet new challenges.
- Adapting current services to ensure they continue to meet community’s needs (eg, providing online support, activity packs)
- Expanding services to meet community’s needs (eg, responding to increase in domestic violence, carer’s support, substance abuse, loneliness, addressing gaps in provision).
- Creating safe community spaces (eg, refurbishing a space to ensure it is fit for purpose, equipment to make delivery safe and creation of new community spaces).
How To Apply
Organisations can apply using the online form which appears from 4 August to 19 August 2020. If successful, the organisation will receive the total funds that they requested in their application.
Applicants will receive the outcome by email in November. If successful, applicants must then return a funding agreement and supporting documents before payment will be made.
