Rainbow Gardens keep open for headspace During Covid-19

Rainbow are a community garden organisation, assisting the local and vulnerable individuals and their respective relatives, dependants and /or carers in North Hull. A registered charity, the garden offers the opportunity for people of all ages to grow salads, herbs and vegetables.  

Volunteers and garden visitors also help with the general maintenance of the garden and wildlife areas. Everyone is encouraged to contribute to the project; as well as gardening Rainbow hold various creative and crafting activities within the garden for children and their families, often in collaboration with other groups such as ‘We Made This Hull’.

The organisation has experience of facilitating engagement in activities and communication, for adults with learning difficulties, people suffering from physical and mental health disorders, families, children, women, and people with physical and mental disabilities. Carers and relatives also find respite in the garden as a relaxing space with a supportive community. Using the community garden as a focal point, Rainbow are developing an interrelated range of food growing and education projects that seek to engage people of all ages and backgrounds.

At the moment Rainbow are supporting our most vulnerable people at the garden, the socially isolated, people experiencing poor mental health and people who had to shield for a long time.  If you have anyone who would like to come and do a session at the garden or just come to have a sit and a socially distanced chat sessions are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, mornings 10am to 11.30am and afternoons 1pm to 2.30pm. The garden has a very relaxed atmosphere and everyone is made to feel welcome.
