18th October 2023Recycle Week 2023!
It’s the 20th anniversary of Recycle Week and to celebrate Recycle Now are launching the Big Recycling Hunt!
Nine out of ten of us now regularly recycle, but over half of us still miss items that could be recycled at home. The Big Recycling Hunt is a nationwide effort to seek out those items that, for one reason or another, are most likely to be forgotten.
Our busy lives are full of things we could recycle. Whether it’s empty aerosols, food tins, plastic cleaning and toiletry bottles, or plastic pots, tubs, and trays, let’s recycle more of these forgotten items, more often.
Not sure if it can be recycled?
Don’t let that item get away! It’s easy to find out what can be recycled where you live – just type your postcode into their Recycling Locator to find out.
Their most wanted – the hunt is on!
Track down the hidden recyclables lurking in your home, waiting to be rescued from the rubbish bin and recycled!
- Plastic tubs and trays including butter tubs, yoghurt pots and meat trays – give them a quick rinse.
- Food tins – take a moment to wash them out in leftover dishwater (the labels can stay on).
- Empty deodorant, air freshener, polish and hair spray aerosols – just remove any loose lids.
- Cleaning and detergent bottles can be recycled once empty – even the ones with trigger sprays!
- Shampoo, shower gel, and lotion bottles. Top Tip! Hang a bag on the back of your bathroom door so they don’t get left behind again!
Check out their list of the other most frequently forgotten items here.
Why are they hunting recyclables?
While most of us recycle, half of us are still binning items that could have been recycled. That’s a lot of lost recyclables!
Recycling saves a whopping 18 million tonnes of CO₂ a year in the UK, so the more we can recycle the better. They’re calling on you to investigate the hidden recyclables in your home and join The Big Recycling Hunt!
