19th May 2023Six years for violent Hull thug
A Hull ‘thug’ who assaulted two men in separate attacks in the city centre last year, leaving them both with broken jaws and one with a life-threatening head injury, has been sentenced to six years in prison at Hull Crown Court.
Liam Lovick, 32, of Dodthorpe Hull, was charged with two counts of grievous bodily harm in connection to the two separate incidents on Saturday 10 December and Tuesday 27 December 2022.
Following a five-day trial, a jury returned a unanimous guilty verdict for both assaults yesterday (Monday 15 May). He was remanded into custody and returned to be sentenced today (Tuesday 16 May).
On Saturday 10 December at around 10.30pm, whilst at the Pink Parrot bar on Whitefriargate in Hull city centre, a man was walking to the toilets when he had a drink poured over him by Lovick. The man approached the group to ask why he had done this and was subsequently headbutted by Lovick.
In shock, the man was assisted by his friends and a bouncer and left the bar to get some fresh air following the assault.
Unbeknown to the man, Lovick was waiting outside the bar and punched him in the jaw causing him to the fall to the floor. He was taken to hospital to receive treatment for a fracture to cheek and jaw.
Just over two weeks later, on Monday 26 December, in his second act of violence Lovick went on to attack a vulnerable man on Paragon Street in Hull City Centre.
At around 10pm, a man was stood outside of a bar in the city centre speaking with Lovick and as they continued walking along Paragon Street, Lovick swung and punched the man in jaw causing him to fall backwards and hit his head on the pavement.
Revellers from the bar ran to the man’s aid in a bid to help him whilst police and ambulance arrived at the scene discovering him laid on the floor with a broken jaw and a life-threatening head injury.
With injuries so severe, whilst in hospital medical professionals were then required to place the man in an induced coma to save his life. The man has been left with a life altering head injury and continues to receive medical treatment.
With no regard for the man or injuries he had inflicted, Lovick fled the scene and evaded arrest for six days before being located and detained by officers as he attempted to hide at a property in Hull.
Superintendent Craig Nicholson leading the investigation said: “Lovick has showed absolutely no remorse for his violent thug like actions which left one man with serious injuries, and another in hospital fighting for his life.
“These were two unprovoked and nasty attacks on two men who should have been out with friends enjoying the festivities.
“This level of violence and criminality will not be tolerated and we will do everything we can to seek justice for victims to ensure our residents feel safe and criminals are punished, and I hope this outcome provides reassurance to our communities.”
