This-Ability is a £3.79m Big Lottery Funded project covering the Hull and East Riding area. The project started on 2nd January 2019 and is currently funded until December 2023.
This-Ability supports people aged between 18 – 29 years, with learning and physical disabilities/difficulties and long-term health conditions, who are unemployed or economically inactive with the aim of moving them into work.
Over the 5 years we will support up to 500 participants moving at least 200 (40%) into employment, through the assistance of a supported employment programme (MOBY)
Participants will receive high quality advice, support, and training delivered by This-Ability and its partners. We expect at least 80% participants to achieve an Employability Passport.
This-Ability is built upon principles of co-production – involving participants in the design and delivery of the services they receive.
This role sits within a team that equips target groups of young people with employability skills and matches them to local employers. It involves the delivery of quality guidance and support on a one-to-one basis, group sessions delivering the elements of the Employability Passport and supporting participants to achieve the overall project outcomes.
The co-ordinator role will assist participants once in employment, to ensure sustainability and a smooth transition into the world of work.
Key responsibilities of the This-Ability Employer Engagement Officer post include:
- Assist the Business Relations Officer to develop, manage, and maintain strong and positive working relationships with different types of employers, from micro-businesses and SMEs, through to large organisations.
- Inform, empower, and support employers to harness the skills of young people with hidden disabilities.
- Deliver a bespoke package to employers including getting to know their business needs, offering training to staff, promoting Disability Confident kite-mark, negotiating reasonable adjustments, placing, and training a young person recruited by the employer.
- Support the Business Relations Officer to market MOBY effectively within the community to service users, employers, and external professionals.
- Evaluate and respond to current labour market information to ensure the project is targeting employers in growth sectors and identifying sustainable job opportunities for young people.
- Assist the Business Relations Officer to manage an active caseload of employers.
- Work with the MOBY mentors to match learners to placements to ensure both parties get the most from the work experience/job placement.
- Support the creation of resources for employers and external partners such as videos, activities, marketing material etc.
- Administration tasks in-line with role and This-Ability requirements.
- Recognise, record and report allegations/disclosures of safeguarding, including concerns.
- Be flexible to the role as required.
- Any other business commensurate with the role.
