Three cars taken from villages overnight appeal for witnesses and advice on keeping your vehicles and property safe

In the early hours of Tuesday 31st December, three cars have been stolen following burglaries in the villages surrounding Hull.

A red mini and a silver BMW (Reg YY17 JNL) were stolen following a burglary on Arlington Avenue in Cottingham. It was reported to Humberside Police at 2.30am, the mini was later found and recovered from north Hull.  The BMW remains missing.

At 3am they received a call from a man who’d disturbed intruders in his home on Hazelbarrow Drive in Willerby, car keys stolen however the intruders fled before able to take any vehicles.

A third burglary was reported at a house on Nunburnholme Park in East Ella, a black BMW (Reg RF14 KFD) was taken.  The vehicle was spotted heading west and remains outstanding.

Humberside Police are investigating all these offences and are appealing for anyone who knows about these incidents or the whereabouts of the vehicles to call them on 101 quoting Log 49 31 December 2019.

Advice to prevent vehicles being stolen:

• Keep your vehicle locked whenever you leave it
• Park your car in a well-lit area
• If you have a garage use it to keep your car out of sight – make sure your car is locked – even in the garage
• Always lock and secure your home, especially at night and to store car keys in a safe place.
• Lock garden and drive gates if you have them
• Consider buying a CCTV system or video door bell.
• Never hang keys on the inside of a door and don’t leave keys on show or in an obvious place. Hide house and car keys within the house somewhere safe.

Detective Inspector Richard Osgerby of Hull’s CID says, “If anyone sees anything suspicious, youths on mopeds or on foot wearing face coverings, anybody looking as though they are checking a property or vehicle out, or anything out of the ordinary please contact us.

“Consider the value of the usual contents of the garage and have a clear out to be able to put your car safely away. Keeping high value cars out of sight will prevent thefts and burglaries.”

“We want to hear from anyone who has information about people involved in burglaries and thefts.  If you don’t want to speak to the police then you can call the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. You can give information anonymously and you could claim a reward.”
