UK Community Renewal Fund

Background

The UK Community Renewal Fund (UKCRF) is a UK Government programme for 2021/2022. The fund aims to support people and communities most in need across the UK to pilot programmes and new approaches to prepare for the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

The UK Government is particularly interested in bids which build on –

• local insight and knowledge
• align with long-term strategic plans for local growth
• support community renewal
• demonstrate a contribution to national net zero and carbon reduction ambitions

The Government is also keen that this Fund is used to support innovation and new ideas.

The UKCRF has four national investment priorities –

• Skills
  • including work-based training
  • retraining 
  • digital skills/inclusion
• Local business – 
  • including supporting entrepreneurs
  • innovation
  • decarbonisation
• Communities and place –
  • including feasibility studies for net zero projects
  • opportunities for culture-led regeneration
  • green spaces and rural connectivity
• Supporting people into employment –
  • including addressing barriers to employment
  • raising aspirations
  • basic skills

The Funding

• 90% of the funding available through the UK Community Renewal Fund is revenue funding 
• only available in 2021-2022, the funding has to be incurred by 31st March 2022. Funding will be made from July 2021 onwards and activities will need to demonstrate they can be delivered in this timeframe and deliverability will be assessed as part of the selection criteria
• in line with Government guidance to maximise the impact and deliverability, larger projects of over £500,000 are encouraged, where this is possible.

Eligibility

Any legally constituted organisation can bid for funding from the UKCRF. However, bids from private sector organisations and registered charities will only be considered where they are for projects that will provide a service to benefit other organisations or individuals (i.e. not if the intention of the project is to further their own business/organisation). The UKCRF will not provide funding to individuals to deliver projects.

Submitting a bid 

As a lead authority, Hull City Council is inviting proposals for shortlisting before submission to government. Successful UK Community Renewal Fund bids will be for 2021/2022 only and activity must end in March 2022.

Bids must be submitted using the UK Community Renewal Fund application form only and bids submitted in any other format will not be accepted. Access the form below.

before starting work on a bid. The prospectus provides detailed information on –

• objectives of the fund
• the types of projects it intends to support
• how it operates
• the process and selection criteria that will be used to assess bids.

Bids must be submitted by 12 noon on Thursday 20 May 2021. The UK Community Renewal Fund is a competitive process and Hull City Council and the UK Government will not enter discussions with bidders.
