6th November 2020Hull: Council tax refund telephone scam

If you receive a call from your council office offering you a council tax refund please remember to not give any personal details over the phone. To ensure security please hang up and call your council tax office & clarify the call was genuine and the request did come from them.
A resident in our area recently had a call asking for their bank details so the alleged refund of tax could be transferred into the customers account.
If you ever receive a telephone call asking for bank details please Take Five to think about if the call could be a fraud.
STOP
Taking a moment to stop and think before parting with your money or information could keep you safe.
CHALLENGE
Could it be fake? It’s ok to reject, refuse or ignore any requests. Only criminals will try to rush or panic you.
PROTECT
Contact your bank immediately if you think you’ve fallen for a scam and report it to Action Fraud.
