29th January 2021Hull: Internet scam calls
This week we have been made aware of a scam phone call claiming to be from your internet provider.
The message seems to be from your internet provider telling you that your internet connection is about to be cut off in 4 hours.
The caller then asks you to contact your provider but this will then put you straight through to another team of scammers waiting to take all of your personal and bank details.
You may be told to ‘press 1’ on their phone keypad to speak to customer services. But this is actually fraudsters posing as the internet service provider.
The scammer goes on to use methods to extract personal details usually saying that this is necessary to stop their internet from being cut off.
Please always remember to Take Five when providing information to people over the phone or internet.
