28th June 2024Humberside Police Armed Forces day

Looking for something fun to do in Hull this weekend? Armed Forces Day will be returning to Hull on Saturday 29 June and this year hopes to provide a fun-packed day of celebrations and activities.
The family-friendly event will take place in Queen Victoria Square and is free for everyone to attend. There are likely to be travel disruption around the event so if you are not planning on going, please avoid this area.
Speaking ahead of the event, Chief Superintendent Darren Wildbore said: “Armed Forces Day is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the role of our armed forces and allows us to reflect and thank those who have protected our country over the years.
“We have seen a great turnout in previous years, with lots of families coming from far and wide to celebrate and take part in the activities, whilst also meeting members of the armed forces, veterans and cadets – making it an enjoyable day for everyone.
“We are really proud to be a part of this event, and we are looking forward to supporting Hull City Council, and other partners to ensure everyone enjoys the celebrations.
“Whilst we want everyone who is attending to have a great time, I want to make it clear that those who come and commit crime or antisocial behaviour will be dealt with robustly by my teams to ensure that everyone else enjoys the event.”
If you are attending, we want to offer some safety advice to make sure you and your families have a safe and enjoyable time:
• Leave any valuables such as jewellery at home. Only take with you what you absolutely need.
• If you are driving, park in a well-lit area and agree on a pre-arranged meeting place should you become separated from friends or family.
• Consider wearing clothes that have pockets with zips to keep your money and mobile phones secure – crowds tend to draw thieves.
• If you are taking small children, take a photo of them beforehand so we can see exactly what they are wearing should they go missing.
• Write your contact details on a piece of paper and put it in the pocket of the children that you are taking so we can get in touch if we find them.
If you see anything suspicious, report immediately to a marshal or any of the police officers who will be patrolling in and around the area.
