25th August 2023Signs of an Opioid overdose & what you can do to help!

ReNew have provided information on how to spot an opioid overdose & what symptoms you should look out for.
In 2021 alone, the UK saw nearly 5,000 deaths from drug poisoning, so here are some ways you can prevent that from happening to a loved one or even yourself.
If you or anyone you know has these symptoms, please contact 999 immediately. The symptoms of opioid overdose are:
- Blue/purple lips & fingernails.
- Shallow, slow breathing.
- Pinpoint pupils.
- Gurgling or snoring sounds.
- Skin is clammy to touch & has lost colour.
- Unresponsive or unconscious.
If someone is unresponsive or unconscious, you should check their airways, place the person in the recovery position, administer naloxone if you have any, and stay with them until an ambulance arrives.
If you want to carry a naloxone kit with you contact your key worker if you feel you would benefit from this. Trained members of staff can also provide you with a kit & teach you how to prevent & manage an opioid overdose. The training takes as little as 10 minutes to learn and can save a life.
