As winter sets in, icy roads and snowy conditions can make everyday activities more challenging. Here are Humberside Fire & Rescue’s top safety tips to keep you and your loved ones safe, both on the road and at home.
🚗 Driving Safely
· Prepare your car: Check tyres, lights, and wipers before setting off.
· Plan ahead: Allow extra time for your journey.
· Keep your distance: Remember, stopping distances are much longer on icy roads.
· Be prepared: Pack essentials like a blanket, water, and a torch in case of delays.
🏠 Keeping Warm Safely
· Turn off heaters: Always switch off heaters when leaving the room or going to bed.
· Avoid hazards: Keep heaters away from bedding, curtains, or anything flammable.
· Use fire guards: Protect against sparks and embers with a sturdy fire guard.
· Check appliances: Inspect portable heaters and electric blankets for damage before use.
· Help others: Look out for vulnerable neighbours or relatives who may need extra assistance.
