Increase in vehicle crime in Hull!

As part of Humberside police crime mapping, they monitor different types of crime across the Humberside Force area.

Recent statistics have shown a small rise in vehicle crime recently, especially in locations around Hull City Centre.

They have seen a rise in reports for theft from motor vehicles and theft of motor vehicles offences, so they wanted to provide 5 hints and tips for each offence, so you can consider these when leaving your vehicle, whether this be at your home address, or when you are out and about.

Theft from motor vehicles -Ensure you close all the windows and lock all the doors. This can easily be forgotten if you are in a rush. Do not leave anything on show in your vehicle. Cars have been broken into for very small amounts of money. Make sure any alarm system is working and used. If you can, remove all tools from your vehicle, or park in a secure location. Use ‘there are no tools left in this vehicle overnight’ stickers.

Theft of motor vehicles -Consider using additional physical security measures, such as a steering wheel lock, we recommend those that have a Secured by design accreditation, they can be found on the Secured by Design website.If your car has keyless entry, use a faraday pouch to block the signal from the key. This will prevent a ‘relay theft’ taking place.If your vehicle is parked on the street, attempt to park it where it can be seen and near streetlights. Consider fitting a tracker.If you have CCTV, park your vehicle where it is covered, and if possible, use a system that will alert you to any movement near your vehicle.
