22nd August 2024Man jailed after attacking police officer during Hull disorder
A man who admitted to causing violence and attacking a police officer during a demonstration in Hull on Saturday 3 August has been sentenced to a total of three-years in prison at Hull Crown Court.
Connor Whiteley, 26-years-old, of Park Row, Hull was charged with violent disorder and assault emergency worker in connection with the incident.
On Wednesday, 14 August, he pleaded guilty to the offences and was sentenced to three years behind bars and issued with a five-year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO).
ACC Thom McLoughlin said: “The violence Whiteley committed that weekend can only be described as utterly abhorrent.
“Not only was he heavily involved in the disorder that day, Whiteley was also captured violently kicking a police officer to the floor.
“I hope the sentence given to him helps to reassure our communities that there is no hiding place for these criminals.
“We have a massive and dedicated team who continue to scour hours and hours of footage and follow numerous lines of enquiry, to find those responsible for harming our city and making our community feel unsafe.
“Our officers voluntarily put themselves in harm’s way to protect the people of Humberside, and it is absolutely unacceptable for them to be assaulted whilst on duty.
“It is not part of the job, and the long-term effects that being subjected to violence can have on that individual, both physically and psychologically, can be monumental.
“Anyone responsible for assaulting an officer or member of police staff can expect to feel the full weight of the law.”
