Does your property have fire doors? 

Fire doors are a vital part of your building’s fire safety. They are designed to slow the spread of fire and smoke, helping to protect people and property. 

However, they only work if they are properly maintained and used correctly. 

Humberside Fire and Rescue Service is reminding landlords, business owners and building managers to make fire doors part of their routine fire safety checks. 

What You Should Check 

Make sure your fire doors are: 

Closing fully into the frame 

Fitted with intact hinges and seals 

Not wedged or held open 

Free from damage, with any faults reported and repaired quickly 

Why This Matters 

Fire door safety issues are still commonly found, including: 

Doors wedged open 

Damaged or poorly installed doors 

Missing seals or faulty parts 

Lack of routine checks 

These issues can prevent a fire door from working as intended during an emergency. 

Take Action 

If you spot a problem, report it straight away to your landlord, facilities team or building manager. 

Fire doors save lives, but only when they are properly maintained and used correctly.
