23rd January 2019Scam HMRC Letter Received By Victims In Humberside

Be Aware !!
Humberside Police Economic
Crime Unit have received a number of reports from victims of a scam HMRC
letter. This is a variation of the HMRC scam phone calls and emails that have
already been seen in great number.
People should always remember that fraudsters will try to make these letters
look as official as possible, but close examination would highlight the
irregularities, such as :
Any official letter from HMRC would be addressed to an individual, NOT ‘The Occupier’.
References to previous correspondence is often just a way of encouraging you to
respond in the ay they want.
If any one receives such a letter and is unsure whether it is genuine or not
please contact HMRC, but do not use the phone number on the letter as this will
communicate further with the fraudsters. Find a contact phone number
independently.
If anyone has received such a letter I would ask you to report it to ACTION
FRAUD, either on line at www.actionfraud.police.uk
or on the telephone 0300 123 2040.
