Op Tramline – keeping our roads safe

Operation Tramline is a national Police initiative in partnership with Highways England to keep roads safe across the country.

Started on Monday 5th April and finished on Thursday 15th April, Humberside Police Roads team were kept busy traveling across the region in an unmarked Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) identifying drivers committing offences.

Throughout the 10 days of intensive action the team stopped a total of 118 vehicles, with a total of 147 offences committed across the force area.

If officers identify a driver committing an offence the incident was recorded via video footage and other officers in an accompanying marked vehicle were notified.  These officers then intercepted the offending vehicle, pulling it over, dealing with the driver involved over any offences committed.

Nationally Operation Tramline has caught over 4000 distracted drivers committing a variety of offences including driving while using mobile phones, not wearing a seatbelt, speeding and drink or drug driving, known as the ‘Fatal Four’.

Commercial vehicles carry a significant risk of harm when the driver is not in proper control.  Those driving whilst using a mobile phone, or are tired through failing to comply with EU Driving Hours Regulations and those not wearing a seatbelt are an increased risk.

Nationally there has been an increase in the last three years of commercial vehicles being involved in fatal collisions. By participating in Operation Tramline Humberside Police hope to have contributed in preventing such devastating collisions, making the roads of our region safer for everyone.
