1st July 2019Safer You Project

The Safer You project is designed to support victims of crime and individuals who are most vulnerable within our communities. Whether someone has already been affected by crime or is at increased risk, the project offers practical assistance to enhance their safety and wellbeing.
This initiative is a collaborative effort between community safety partners, working together to identify local needs and provide low-cost crime reduction solutions that help prevent future victimisation and promote a safer environment for all.
This project is only active within the West Carr, North Carr, Kingswood, Sutton and Orchard Park City Wards, thanks to funding form the elected members of Humberside Police in these specific areas.

Through their daily work community safety advocates such as Humberside Police or Hull City Council Housing staff come across victims of crime and vulnerable people that would benefit from basic target-hardening items for themselves or their property. The community safety advocates then do a small needs assessment of the individual and complete a short form. This is sent to the NN team, who package together the equipment and deliver it to those identified. The equipment is provided free to the individual or household from the funding pots specific to the ward.
Equipment includes; window alarms, door chimes, personal alarms, dummy CCTV cameras and stickers, cycle locks, door handle alert alarms amongst many more.
‘It’s a positive way of making a small gesture towards supporting victims of crime and vulnerable residents in the North Carr, West Carr and Kingswood Wards of the city.’
‘’Thank you for your help in supplying the two addresses with window/door/personal alarms. From speaking to the tenants, they have expressed how appreciative they are for the additional security and it has made them feel more secure in their homes (both tenants had previously moved due to experiencing Domestic Violence). Security and reassurance are of paramount importance to both tenants.’’ Housing Team Officer, Hull City Council
