24th January 2025Protect your van and it’s contents – Humberside Police

The theft of vans and tools from vans is seen throughout the force area. Humberside Police may identify a rise in these types of incidents, and then send information out to advise van owners how best to reduce the risk of their van being targeted.
The reason behind this message, is to provide van owners with that information now, so they can take steps to reduce that risk before anything happens.
The good news is there are some easy hints and tips that you can implement that will reduce the risk of your vehicle being broken in to or stolen.
· Ensure you close all the windows, and lock all the doors, even if you are working close by.
· Make sure any alarm system is working and used.
· Consider fitting a tracker.
· Consider using additional security such as steering wheel locks.
· Consider additional locks on the doors, as standard locks can be easily breached.
· Don’t leave tools on show if you are leaving your van unattended.
· Park the van in a secured location if you can.
· Park your van where it can be seen, so anyone approaching it, will also be seen.
· Consider using ‘There are no tools left in this vehicle’ signs.
· Consider property marking your tools, so if they are stolen, they can be identified.
· Use signage to warn that tools have been marked.
· Register you tools on Immobilise.com for free.
· If you see anyone acting suspiciously around vehicles, inform the Police.
