Tour de Yorkshire – Thursday 3rd May, Stage 1 of the Tour de Yorkshire (TDY) will run from Beverley to Doncaster.

The bunting is out and everyone is getting ready for one of the busiest days of the year for the East Riding.  Humberside Police officers, volunteers and staff will be on duty throughout the day in Beverley and along the route to make sure everyone stays safe.  If you see anything police need to be aware of please speak to an officer or call 101.

There are three officers in the police motorcycle outriding team who are looking forward to riding ahead of the race and helping to make sure the event runs smoothly and safely – look out for numbers R7, R9 and R10 and give them a wave.

The women’s race will have its ceremonial start in Beverley at 8.50am, riders will go out towards Bentley for the official start they then go through Skidby, Walkington, Cherry Burton, Middleton on the Wolds, Pocklington and Holme upon Spalding Moor before cycling through the historic town of Howden continuing through Airmyn and Rawcliffe before leaving our area on route to the finish in Doncaster.

The men’s race will begin with a ceremonial start at 2.20pm from central Beverley, leaving the town towards Tickton where the race will officially start. The cyclists will head out towards Hornsea, looping around the Mere before heading back thorough Beverley and continue with the route as the women’s did earlier in the day.

Key times for travel disruption:

Beverley is the main host and hub for the event on Day 1 of the race. Large parts of the town will be closed from 5pm 2 May and will not reopen until 6pm on 3 May, including Saturday Market Place, Sow Hill, North Bar Within, Walkergate to name but a few.  A full list of ERYC road closures is attached.

The A164 will be closed from 8.15am to 9am between Beverley and Skidby this is likely to cause significant delays so please plan your journey carefully and allow extra time for travel. 

The women’s race departs from the town centre at 8.40am

• Skidby – riders due to arrive in the village at 8.50am
• Middleton on the Wolds – riders due to arrive in the village at 9.30am
• Pocklington – riders due to arrive in the town at 9.50am
• Howden – riders due to arrive in the town at 10.45am
• The race leaves our region at around 11.20am

The men’s race departs from the town centre at 1.50pm and passes back through at 3pm

• Hornsea – riders due to arrive in the town at 2.20pm
• Skidby – riders due to arrive in the village at 3.10pm
• Middleton on the Wolds – riders due to arrive in the village at 3.40pm
• Pocklington – riders due to arrive in the town at 4.05pm
• Howden – riders due to arrive in the town at 4.50pm
• The race leaves our region at around 5.30pm

The message from Humberside Police would be to enjoy the spectacle that is the Tour de Yorkshire.  Expect delays throughout the region throughout the day.  If you don’t want your travel to be disrupted and don’t want to get involved with the event then avoid the route completely for the duration.
