Antisocial drivers and modified cars targeted

Officers have brought dozens of actions against drivers who were causing a nuisance in a car park on Kingston Shopping Centre off Holderness Road in Hull following complaints from local residents.

By working with our partner agencies, including the council and local businesses, we took part in two targeted operations after receiving a number of reports about drivers causing problems by speeding, driving carelessly, playing loud music, and having loud exhaust pipes.

Over the two nights, 39 actions in total were taken against drivers for offences including:
•1 x Stolen vehicle
•Vehicle defects including dangerous defects
•Prohibited vehicles
•Inconsiderate driving
•No insurance
•Disqualified driving
•Passenger not wearing a seatbelt
•Incorrect spacing on a vehicle registration plate
•Driving without due care and attention
•Defective headlight

PC Sarah Carr, Drypool Community Beat Manager, said: “Both operations have been a huge success with some great results and we’re very pleased with the outcome.

“We have seen a large reduction in calls since about the associated issues that residents were experiencing.

“The behaviour displayed by these drivers was causing local residents a lot of distress and upset. The noise was preventing them enjoying a good quality of life and keeping them awake at night. We listened to the residents’ concerns and we acted on them.

“We will continue to tackle this sort of behaviour and always encourage anyone who has any concerns to get in touch with us and report it. By working together we can keep our communities safe and stronger.”
