Crime Reduction Fund launches in Hull

Voluntary and community groups in Hull are being invited to apply for grants from a new fund that has been launched to tackle crime, anti-social behaviour and other community issues. 

The Hull Community Grant Fund Scheme has been established by the Hull Community Safety Partnership, thanks to over £100,000 of funding provided by the Humberside Police and Crime Commissioner. 

The scheme, which is being managed by the Hull Community Safety Partnership, will allow voluntary and community groups to submit applications for funding of up to £10,000 for new or existing projects. 

In order to be eligible for a grant, groups or organisations must:

• be a voluntary organisation, community or faith group
• be open and accessible to the community it serves
• be based within the boundaries covered by Hull City Council
• have a planned and demonstrable approach to safeguarding issues if working with children, young people and vulnerable adults
• have a constitution or governing document.
• have a bank account in the name of the organisation

The projects, which could tackle a wide range of issues such as domestic abuse, reducing substance misuse and reducing violent crime, will also help to meet the aims in the Humberside Police and Crime Commissioner’s police and crime plan, which are to:

• deliver increasingly self-sustaining and safe communities in the Humber area
• build public confidence in the agencies involved in creating safer communities
• provide services to victims and the vulnerable that meet their needs.

Hull CSP Chair Tracy Harsley said: “We welcome this opportunity to work more closely with communities and to support them in seeking to improve outcomes for residents and communities that will build resilience and reduce crime, disorder and anti-social behaviour.”

Police and Crime Commissioner for Humberside, Keith Hunter, said: “One of the key aims of my police and crime plan is to deliver increasingly self-sustaining and safe communities. 

“I have funded the community safety partnership in Hull to ensure community groups have a local point of contact and I hope the fund will encourage a greater community involvement to tackle crime and safety.”

Applications for the fund will be assessed on an on-going basis with decisions on awards being made every three months beginning in December 2017.
