Officers and the Fire and Rescue service attended. No fire was lit and security advice was given to the victim who was unhurt but distressed.
Police are asking for anyone with any information in connection with this to contact to call 101 quoting log 542 of 10/10/18.
Inspector Mark Peasgood said: “We are treating this incident as attempted arson with intent to endanger life. That is a very serious offence.
“Officers are currently trying to establish whether this was done on purpose or as a prank.
“To make it clear, this kind of thing isn’t a joke. The man involved was obviously very shaken.
“Please help us find who is responsible for this.”
