29th July 2022Humberside Fire & Rescue spectacular charity challenge in Hull City Centre this weekend
Humberside Fire & Rescue will be hosting the annual British Firefighter Challenge in Hull City Centre, which pushes competitors to their limits in a series of physical activities while raising funds for The Fire Fighters Charity which offers lifelong support for members of the fire services community. Each challenge aims to simulate real-life emergency situations.
Wearing full kit, competitors from different fire services around the country and abroad will tackle eight different timed challenges designed to simulate real-life emergency situations. They include connecting a fire hose to a portable pump before dragging it over a 60-metre distance, carrying four containers weighing 20kg each and rescuing a 70kg dummy before hauling it to safety.
The event will take place on Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st July. Saturday’s programme will see male firefighters aged between 18 and 44-years-old tackling the challenges. Sunday will see males over 45 and females taking on each challenge as well as relay events.
Organisers say around 200 competitors are expected to take part this weekend with a range of free family-friendly entertainment being lined up too, including a junior firefighter challenge for youngsters to try and displays featuring fire engines and community safety activities. The event starts at 9am and finishes at 5pm on both days.
