Following an advisory letter that was shared by a PCSO with a community in Grimsby in relation to Covid-19, there have been a number of online posts from concerned individuals across the Force area and we want to allay any fears people have and offer reassurance that we have not received any reports of this nature.
Local Neighbourhood Inspector Dave Stephenson said: “A PCSO was approached by a member of the public while on patrol in Grimsby, advising they believed a man had recently approached an elderly person in the Tivoli Gardens area and offered to do their shopping for them. It’s alleged the man took money from the elderly person to do their shopping but never returned.
“Enquiries are being carried out to identify any victim and establish the full circumstances, however at this stage we have not had any confirmed reports of this happening and there have been no reports of this nature across any of the Humberside force area.
“We would ask that if anyone does have information, they please make contact with us on 101 as offences of this nature will not be tolerated.
“If anyone chooses to take advantage and exploit vulnerable people we will take serious action against them.
“If you are self-isolating or social distancing, speak to a trusted friend, family member or neighbour and let them know, so that they can collect essential items for you and support you.”
