31st May 2023Man and woman arrested in Human Trafficking investigation
A man and woman were arrested in Birmingham yesterday (Thursday 25 May) in connection with an investigation headed up by the Humberside Police Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking team with support from a number of other forces.
Officers were called to King George Docks in Hull in November last year after six children and seven adults were reported to have been discovered on a lorry concealed under gravel.
The man, aged 27 and woman, aged 35 were arrested on suspicion of human trafficking and modern day slavery offences. They have been released on police bail whilst enquiries continue.
Detective Sergeant Richard Kirk of our Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking team said: “We take all reports of human trafficking and exploitation very seriously. These investigations are often complex and lengthy, but the intelligence we receive plays a huge part in safeguarding victims.
“I would ask anyone who has any concerns, or intelligence to suggest modern slavery or human trafficking is happening in their communities, to please contact us on 101 or call the Modern Slavery Helpline on 08000 121 700.”
