Last year, our volunteers completed more than 9,000 hours and have already reached 4,000 hours this year.
Members of our Special Constabulary committed more than 41,500 hours between 1 April 2021 and 31 Mar 2022. Since 1 April 2022, they have added a further 6,200 hours.
National Volunteers’ Week 2022 is a time to say thanks to all those who gave up their time to play an important role during an exceptionally difficult couple of years, and continue to do so today.
At Humberside Police, our volunteers have helped deliver safe-and-well letters to vulnerable people, volunteered at vaccination centres, assisted Neighbourhood Policing Teams through leaflet drops, and role-played in the training of police officers.
Under the broad umbrella of volunteers are:
- Community Support Volunteers. These hold a range of bespoke roles including Mobile Rural Watch, Welfare Checkers, Vehicle Checkers, Cybercrime and Fraud Ambassadors and Role Players who help to train officers, to name but a few.Find out more about Community Support Volunteers here.
- Police Cadets. Our young volunteers contribute at least three hours a month alongside their Cadet Leaders. Their contribution includes assisting with local community events; supporting the local Neighbourhood Policing Teams through leaflet drops crime prevention initiatives and community safety events; and helping as role-play volunteers in police training.Find out more about Police Cadets here.
- Special Constabulary. ‘Specials’, as they are known, have the same power, uniform and responsibilities as full-time police officers, but volunteer on a part-time basis, managing their role alongside their normal employment. Specials give up their own time to support their regular colleagues and strengthen our front-line policing.Find out more about our Specials here.
Over the next few days, we will be celebrating just a handful of our fantastic volunteers.
