Description
Grants are available to local non-profit organisations and groups for projects within two miles of a One Stop store in Great Britain that benefit local communities by helping to improve lives and local places.

Objectives of Fund
The funding is intended to help with the direct costs of projects that benefit benefit local communities located within two miles of a One Stop store in Great Britain.
Projects need to meet at least one of the following outcomes:
- Improving the lives of young people.
- Improving the lives of the elderly.
- Promoting physical activity.
- Improving health or well being.
- Increasing community safety.
- Protecting or improving the local environment.
Value Notes
The maximum grant available is £1,000.
Match Funding Restrictions
Match funding is not required.
Who Can Apply
Non-profit making organisations in England, Scotland and Wales can apply as long as they are constituted and have a governing document.
Applications will be accepted from a wide range of organisations including:
- Voluntary and community organisations
- Registered charities
- Schools
- Health bodies
- Hospices
- Sports clubs
- Community day centres
- Parish/Town councils
- Social enterprises
- Community Interest Companies
- Community councils (Scotland)
- Local authorities
- Social Housing providers
Applicants can find out if their project is within two miles of a participating One Stop store by using the store locator on the Groundwork website.
Restrictions
The following are not eligible for funding:
- Businesses and for-profit organisations.
- Projects that are more than two miles away from a One Stop store.
- Purchase of land.
- Work that has already taken place.
- Political donations.
- Fundraising activities or challenges (eg, costs for a sky dive, etc.).
- Running costs and organisation overheads.
- Delegate costs for conferences or seminars.
- Activities which collect funds for redistribution to other charities or individuals.
- Overseas appeals.
- Expeditions or overseas travel.
- Promotion of a religious or political cause.
- Marketing promotions.
- Research projects.
Eligible Expenditure
To be eligible, projects must benefit local communities by helping to improve lives and local places.
Projects should also meet at least one of the following additional outcomes:
- Improving the lives of young people.
- Improving the lives of the elderly.
- Promoting physical activity.
- Improving health or well being.
- Increasing community safety.
- Protecting or improving the local environment.
Examples of eligible projects include, but are not limited to:
- One off community events such as community fun day expenses, summer youth camp, litter picking, day trips costs for community based clubs or organisations, sports events, expenses to pay for terminally ill cancer patients on visits to the seaside.
- Purchasing items to run a project such as specialised medical equipment, football/cricket /netball kit for local junior club, arts and craft materials for a workshop, kitchen equipment for a healthy eating project, marketing materials for an event, fishing kit for youth project.
- Improvements to community buildings such as painting, refurbishing buildings such as hospices, scout or guide huts, school building, community centres.
- Improvements to external spaces such as park clean ups, community gardens, hospital/hospice gardens, disabled access projects, food growing projects, woodland walk.
- Purchasing materials to undertake a place based improvement project such as buying paint, litter pickers, gravel, grass seed, plants, and benches.
The funding can be spent on both capital (direct) and revenue (indirect) costs:
- Direct costs are those for the physical improvement of the site. They tend to be mainly capital expenditure although may include revenue such as volunteer supervision or labour to carry out the work, playgound equipment, hospital equipment, constructing pathways, fencing, preliminary works, supervising volunteers, etc.
- Indirect costs are those that help deliver the project and these tend to be revenue, such as website set up, promotional activity, volunteer training and expenses, room hire, photocopying and printing. etc.
How To Apply
This is a rolling programme, and applications will be accepted throughout the year.
Applications are shortlisted on a quarterly basis. Applicants will generally know the outcome of their application within 20 weeks of applying.
