20th October 2023Open Doors October Newsletter!

Some of the Open Doors volunteers have only recently come back from their Summer holidays and they find themselves already making plans about Christmas (only 10 weeks away!). As every year, they will try to make this time special for asylum seekers in our area and add a bit of joy to their lives. See below how you can help.
You will remember from last month’s newsletter that Carole Mowforth was going to do the ‘Caminho Portugues’ raising funds for Open Doors. Well, she is now back having completed it successfully and is sharing some thoughts on the experience below. It is not too late to make your contribution and help her to reach her target!
In this newsletter you will also find an appeal from Gabrielle Awre regarding the ‘Children’s Corner’ and news of two music events organised by our project leader, Cecil Jones. The first one was held as a contribution to ‘Black History Month 2023’: if you want to know more about ‘Hull Black History’, follow this Facebook link here.
You are all invited to attend the second musical event, which will happen in November: see the flyer below for all the necessary information.
Finally, their Treasurer, Barrie Thompson, after years of excellent work, is looking for someone who could replace him. If you are interested in volunteering for this role but not sure you are the right person, contact us or come and see us in action at Open Doors, and Barrie will explain what the job involves.
