16th September 2025Scam Energy Supplier Calls

There has been a number of reports of people receiving phone calls from individuals pretending to be their energy supplier or broker. These callers are claiming your prices are about to go up, or that your contract is due for renewal when it isn’t – in order to pressure you into sharing information.
They may ask for personal details such as direct debit information, email addresses, or even meter photos. Remember, genuine suppliers and brokers will never ask you to share sensitive information over the phone.
- Ask them to call you back at a later time; this will allow you to check out the telephone number that they have called you on. We would advise you check the supplier/broker websites. This can also give you time to contact your supplier or your broker to confirm if it was a representative of their company.
- Double-check; Contact your supplier or broker directly using the details on your official account documents. You can also call us at Reduce My Costs – we’re happy to help confirm if a call is genuine.
- Utilise your broker or consultant; if you are unsure if a call is legitimate, provide your brokers telephone number to the potential scammer. Email your broker and inform them of what has happened, they can handle this for you.
