16th September 2025Falls Awareness Week 2025 – Helping you stay safe at home

Falls are one of the most common causes of injury, especially among older adults, and they can have a big impact not just physically, but emotionally too. This Falls Awareness Week, organisations across the UK are joining forces to raise awareness, share practical advice and help reduce the risk of falls in our communities.
Whether you’re concerned about your own safety or looking out for a loved one, small changes can make a big difference.
Top tips to prevent falls at home
- Keep walkways clear – Remove clutter, loose rugs, and trailing wires.
- Improve lighting – Make sure hallways and stairs are well-lit.
- Use handrails and grab bars – Especially in bathrooms and on stairs.
- Wear sensible footwear – Avoid slippers that are loose or worn out.
- Stay active – Gentle exercise can improve balance and strength.
- Check medications – Some prescriptions can affect balance or coordination.
- Get your eyes tested – Poor vision increases the risk of tripping.
