Job Title: Welcome House Community Inclusion Action Officer
The aim is: To enhance WH Service Users Community Engagement and Integration
Location: Hull
Job Duration: Part–time, Fixed term 1 year (16 hours per week)
Main Purpose:
To promote engagement and integration of their service users into their local communities, by or through working, with the Hull City Council ( HCC) Neighbourhood Coordinators, in at least three postcode areas (HU3, HU5 and HU6), having significant number of people from the diverse backgrounds. This initiative will help their service users to regain their confidence and trust and engagement in their communities. Through this project, a healthy relationship among all people would be built within the guidance of the Hull City Community Plan.
The goal is to recruit a person, whose job would be to connect, encourage, motivate and engage their service users to contribute towards the local community service initiatives by or working with the Hull City Council (HCC) Neighbourhood Coordinators and other potential local organisations. They would be aiming to improve community safety/social inclusion and the lives of local people.
For example, a WH staff member with the involvement of the Neighbourhood Coordinator, will identify the activities, aim to improve the quality of lives of the people in the areas, such as cleaning or litter picking, gardening etc.
The list of key functions: You will not be expected to have all these in place from the Day one and they will provide information and support where needed.
- To raise awareness and engage WH service users in the local positive community initiatives
- To build a data base of the WH service users willing to be involved in this project.
- To build a healthy relationship with the local Voluntary Community and Social Enterprises (VCSE) team and HCC Neighbourhood Co-ordinators to achieve the goal of this project.
- Assisting in the creation & distribution of publicity materials to increase awareness, provide information and widen participation.
- Collating evidence of project impact, including developing feedback system, writing up session feedback, and creating reports.
- To promote the principles and practices of equality and social inclusion in all aspects of the work and ensuring the services are delivered in ways which are fully accessible and in a language that they understand.
- To assist with the integration of the refugees and asylum seekers into their local community
- To participate in relevant training and continuing professional development activity as agreed with the line management.
- To participate in and contribute to Welcome House staff meetings, and internal organisational development events, and any other roles commensurate with the grading of this post.
- To represent Welcome House at external meetings as agreed by the line management.
Monitoring and Evaluation:
- To compile and maintain auditable records, both paper and electronic of this project.
- To maintain a database of service users, partners, and associated contacts.
- To assist in arranging events, evaluations, client’s feedback, etc.
- To help WH in obtaining clients’ success stories.
Other Duties:
- Carry out such other duties as may be reasonably requested for success of the Welcome House.
Person Specification:
Experience and Knowledge
- Experience of working with refugees/asylum seekers or other vulnerable groups and an understanding of the difficulties faced by refugees/asylum seekers.
- Experience of working with Information Technology applications such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Access, and Excel.
- Knowledge of the barriers that refugees/asylum seekers have in accessing services and rebuilding their lives in the UK.
- Ability to prepare and present regular reports and keep an up-to-date record of your work progress.
- Reasonable Knowledge of the Local Authority Services, community plan and experience working with local people and organisations.
Qualities, Abilities and Skills – Essential
- Good verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Good interpersonal skills and a commitment to equality & diversity.
- Enthusiasm, reliability, and self-motivation, with a flexible approach to work and
- Working as a part of a team, with an ability to schedule work and manage deadlines.
- Be able to speak more than one language including English.
Salary (Gross pay)
Salary of £11648 pa, based on £14.00 an hour for 16-hour week. Hours to be worked over 2 or 3 days, (to be agreed). 13 days holiday a year. (Some flexibility over school holidays).
