Action Fraud have 3 Trigger Fraud Alerts to bring to your attention. Please see below the details of these:
Text / WhatsApp Message – Hi Mum / Hi Dad Scam
They have been informed by Humberside Police that Fraudsters are sending messages to victims phones claiming to be their son or daughter. The text may start Hi, mum or Hi Dad. The message claims they have changed their phone number and for you to save their new number into your contacts details. The suspect with then start communicating with you portraying to be your son or daughter. There are different variants of this scam, lost phone, in hospital, abroad, split up with partner, phone in repair shop and many more. The end game for the fraudster is financial gain and at some point, during the messages they will ask you to pay an invoice or send them money as they need your help. iPhone upgrade scam
They have been informed by Humberside Police that fraudsters are contacting victims portraying to be from well known telephone providers. The Fraudster will ask if you want to reduce your outgoing bill by half or offer you other amazing deals. Personal/financial details are then provided to the suspect to set up the new contract. Once agreed, a package arrives with an iPhone inside. The Fraudster will call back and explain they did not mean to send the iPhone and provide an address to send it back. When you contact your bank, the fraudster will have taken payments for the phone from your bank account. Action Fraud have more information about this type of fraud on their website here.
Job / Recruitment Scam
We have been informed by Humberside Police of a job/recruitment scam. Victims have applied through job for you and received communication to start at ADELAIDE PRIMARY SCHOOL. When arriving at the address victims have been made aware that there was no such job at the school. The Victims have provided personal information; Passport, driving licence, NI number. As part of this scam the Fraudsters are collecting your personal information. If you are worried about ID theft, visit cifas.org.uk to apply for protective registration.
