If you own a motorbike one of your main concerns may be that it is targeted by thieves.
Thieves are known to steal motorbikes so it can either be sold on, used for parts or to simply ride around on it, often dangerously, where they cause issues for other road users and pedestrians.
Below is a list of tips that could reduce the risk of your motorbike being stolen.
1) Lock it up, with the best quality lock you can afford. Ideally a chain around the back wheel and a disc lock on the front.
2) If you can do, store your motorbike in a shed or a garage so it is out of sight. Also consider an alarm for the shed or garage.
3) Cover your bike up if it is left outside, making it more difficult for a thief to identify the make and model.
4) Consider fitting an alarm and immobiliser if you don’t already have one.
5) Consider fitting a tracker to your bike, so if it is stolen, the chance of it being located and found increases.
6) Consider fitting motion activated CCTV that will alert you if there is any movement near your bike.
Most motorbike thieves will look for an easy target that has very few security measures on it so anything you can put in place could lower the risk of your bike being stolen.
