23rd February 2024Violent Hull troublemaker arrested
A terrified policeman from Humberside Police was left in “genuine fear” after a “strong and powerful” troublemaker viciously grabbed him by the throat and tried to strangle him during a violent struggle.
Two other officers also feared for their safety after they were also attacked during the aggressive confrontation and two of them were put into headlocks, Hull Crown Court heard.
Jordan Robinson, 29, of Sheldon Close, Bransholme, Hull, admitted assaulting two police officers and the intentional strangulation of a third officer on December 31.
Ben Hammersley, prosecuting, said that the three police officers went to Sheldon Close to arrest Robinson because he was wanted on other matters, which were later dropped. He tried to leave but two officers went round the back of the house, with the other staying at the front.
They came together at the back of the property and the officers tried to detain him. Robinson became aggressive and resisted. He grabbed a female officer by her head and put her into a headlock as well as putting a male officer into a headlock.
The breathing of the male officer was twice momentarily restricted and he was put in a “great deal of fear”. Robinson punched another officer to his eye but he was detained using Pava spray and was handcuffed and taken into custody.
The policewoman later said that she was very frightened at the time because she did not know what Robinson’s intentions were going to be when he had her in a headlock.
Judge John Thackray KC told Robinson: “You are, it is clear, a strong and powerful man. The job of the police is hard enough without having someone like you who is behaving in an appalling and violent manner, issuing threats.
“They are there to serve the community. They deserve and will receive the protection of the courts. The offence of strangulation is a serious matter.
“I don’t underestimate for a moment how scared and terrified they were. Thankfully, the physical injuries were not the most serious.”
Robinson was jailed for one year.
