Two men have been charged in connection with the death of 49-year-old Jonathan Hutty, after he sustained a fatal head injury during an alleged assault in Hull in February this year.
Ian Smalley, 53, of Hutt Street, Hull and Gavin Leaning, 51, of Padstow Close, Hull have both been charged with murder following their arrest.
Smalley and Leaning appeared at Hull Magistrates Court this morning (Friday 3 May), where they were both remanded into custody to appear at Hull Crown Court on Tuesday 7 May.
Authorities received a call from paramedics at around 2.35am on Saturday 24 February reporting they found a man inside a property on Padstow Close with a serious head injury, as a result of a suspected assault.
Officers were deployed to the scene and Jonathan was immediately taken to hospital to receive medical treatment where he remained in a critical condition for 16-days.
Despite the efforts of medical professionals, Jonathan died from his injuries on Monday 11 March and a murder investigation was launched.
Five people were arrested between February and March in connection with the incident and four were re-arrested on Wednesday 1 May, alongside a sixth person, a man, who was also arrested as part of the investigation.
Three people have since been released on police bail whilst enquiries continue.
